On the first of each month at 9am, review how my Vimeo videos performed over the previous month and turn the numbers into a written narrative I can act on. The point is interpretation, not a data dump: I want to know what is working, what is not, and what to do differently next month.

Start by pulling my library with the Vimeo List User Videos operation, paging through the full list. For each video, call Get Video to read its play count and engagement figures along with its title, description, duration, and upload date. Play counts live on the video object as stats.plays and require the Vimeo connection to be authorized with the stats scope. If those numbers come back empty or Vimeo returns a scope error (error_code 8002), stop and tell me the Vimeo connection needs stats access rather than reporting zeros as if they were real results.

Use the fields query parameter on every Vimeo call so responses stay small, because Vimeo rate limits are roughly 250 requests per 15 minutes on free accounts and 1,000 on paid plans, and calling Get Video once per video adds up quickly. If my library is large, concentrate on videos published in the last 12 months plus any older video that recorded plays during the review month, and note in the report if anything was skipped.

To understand where each video sits, use List Folders and List Showcases together with List Folder Videos and List Showcase Videos, so every video in the ranking can be attributed to a folder or a showcase.

Before writing anything, find last month's report in my Notion content database using Query a Data Source (or Query a Database on older Notion API versions), sorted newest first so I get the most recent prior report, then read its contents with Retrieve Page as Markdown. Use the figures in that page as the baseline for this month's comparison. If no previous report exists, say clearly that this is the first month and establish a baseline instead of inventing trends.

Write a short narrative report. Name the top five and the bottom five performers for the month with their play counts and how each one moved versus last month. Then look for themes across topic, video length, and which showcase or folder the video sits in: are shorter videos outperforming longer ones, is one showcase carrying the whole library, is a particular subject consistently landing. Call out anything that changed direction, for example a topic that was strong last month and faded this month. End the report with exactly three concrete recommendations for next month's content, each specific enough to act on, such as a topic to make more of, a length to target, or a showcase that deserves more promotion.

Save the finished report as a new page in my Notion content database using Create a Page, titled with the month and year in a consistent format, for example "Vimeo performance review: July 2026". Keep that title format identical every month so future runs can reliably find the previous report.

Finally, post the headline findings into Slack with Send a Message. Keep it to a few lines: the month under review, total plays and how that moved versus last month, the single best and worst performer, and the three recommendations in short form, followed by a link to the new Notion page. Use Slack formatting, so single asterisks for bold and angle-bracket links.
